In August 1999 I walked along J. Owen Grundy Park. It’s a walker’s pier that juts into the Hudson River. There’s a magnificent view of lower Manhattan straight across.
To the left is the Empire State building. It was my first day here during a three-day tryout. For lunch I came down the elevator leaving bread crumbs to find my way back, I suppose.
In my other ear I heard talk of rhetorical support and a massive bifurcation going forward with soft teeth for fabless companies where my brain wasn’t getting any juice.
So, I stood here at the rail facing the water, away from the scrim above. Here, people are lunching with flensing tools and stare down parlous water.
Everyone knows what wet leases are, and besides, it would take too long to explain. I’ve always felt that way about an Opie paradox and a Schatzki ring.
Here, long I stood. God, I never felt so alone.
